I was selected to represent Google at a roundtable gathering the Heads of Patent from several tech companies to discuss gender diversity in patenting, hosted by the United States Patent & Trademark Office.
Albeit the only non-lawyer, I used my space at the table to contextualize the low percentage of women, especially women of color, we see in patenting: lack of corporate (and public) support to satisfy more baseline needs like healthcare, parental leave, childcare, and just recourse for sexual harassment; lack of access to legal resources, including counsel; and low faith in a legal system that’s wasn’t built for many of us in the first place.
